The UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2024 Exam, one of the toughest exams in the country and the world, was scheduled for May 26th. However, it has now been postponed. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination due to the Lok Sabha elections. Now, this examination will be held on June 16th. The Commission has issued a notice regarding this on its official website. UPSC conducts this examination every year to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other positions. This examination is conducted at various examination centers across the country.

However, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) postponed the Civil Services Preliminary Examination until June 16th. The UPSC annually conducts the Civil Services Examination to select officers for various services, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. Initially, this examination was supposed to be held on May 26th.

Clash with Lok Sabha Elections:

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination was supposed to be held on May 26th, which clashed with the Lok Sabha election schedule. Therefore, the decision to postpone the UPSC Civil Services Examination was made. This year, Lok Sabha elections are being held in the country. Just two days ago, the dates for the Lok Sabha elections were announced. The Lok Sabha elections in 2024 will be conducted in seven phases. The elections will run from April 19th to June 1st, 2024, with the vote count scheduled for June 4th, 2024.

Three Stages of Civil Services Examination:

The UPSC Civil Services Examination consists of three stages. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination, the second stage is the Main Examination, and the third stage is the Interview. Candidates who qualify in the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination can appear for the Main Examination. Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination get the opportunity to appear for the Interview. Qualifying in all three stages of the UPSC examination is crucial. The final result of the UPSC Civil Services Examination is prepared based on the scores obtained in the Main Examination and the Interview.

It’s been stated that the UPSC has decided to postpone the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2024 due to the schedule of general elections. Additionally, the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2024, which was scheduled from May 26th to June 16th, has also been postponed.

According to the notification issued by the UPSC last month, this year’s examination could fill approximately 1,056 vacancies. It’s worth noting that the Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases starting from April 19th, and the election results will be announced on June 4th.

Conducting the UPSC examination in Manipur seems unlikely

The Manipur government has informed the Delhi High Court that it is not feasible to conduct the Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in the state this year. The state government has consented to conduct the examination for the candidates affected by violence in Manipur outside the state. The letter from the state’s chief secretary was submitted to the court, stating that the Manipur government will provide financial assistance for candidates to travel to examination centers outside the state.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmohan Singh Arora is hearing a public interest litigation. The bench found that, similar to last year, this year’s examination could be conducted outside the state. Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing the Central government, stated that the chief secretary’s letter is a step forward. Officials and police officers of the Manipur government are not safe in the state.
